It was the second novel of yours that I read; after Valley of Lights. But I felt a closer kinship with it as I regularly used to hitch around the UK in my student days. Often between Hull and Grimsby to Art school but also up to Scotland and down to London. It saved me a fortune and I found people really pretty decent. Your description of the hitching in the novel is spot on and it's a great thriller.Roving Eyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11084897878919218773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1249939222074893010.post-81140809203530675152023-05-10T01:12:15.572+01:002023-05-10T01:12:15.572+01:00Perhaps a dinosaur more appropriate for the times ...Perhaps a dinosaur more appropriate for the times would have a better effect, overall, as this one is too anachronistic. Actually, the "dragon" from the Reeves movie "Hercules" would be perfect, as it looks just very much like some kind of Theropod. Maybe a title change, too, to something more like, "Maciste Against the Lost World", or, "Son of Hercules vs. the Stone Age Monsters". Gordon Scott was perhaps my favorite of the Sword 'n Sandal stars.varanid9https://www.blogger.com/profile/04785049043913869834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1249939222074893010.post-22818005632503991342023-01-21T10:00:50.163+00:002023-01-21T10:00:50.163+00:00As I go through the UK Freeview channels I see a c...As I go through the UK Freeview channels I see a couple of these - 'That's TV' I think is the latest - putting out old library stuff, the rights to which I imagine they've bought in job lots. The weird (to me) thing is, I showed the image to a couple of people to demonstrate my point and they couldn't see any problem. I still remember quite clearly the Sunday it was loaded on to the wagon to take it to the London Palladium. My dad helped to make it and on several occasions I would go with him to the workshop and help my dad, mind you, I was only ten at the time so just how much help I gave him is questionable. There was a problem with it on that day as the plan was for it to drive on under its own power as it had a electrical motor and a battery but for some reason they couldn’t get it working in time. They had to push it out of the workshop and I was lucky enough to sit in it while it was being pushed. On the night they put it on the rotating part of the stage and with all the smoke it looked like it was moving on it own and at the end of the show it was as you said it was put on the elevated section. I often wonder what happen to it. At least I still have the photo that my dad took of me standing in front of suppercar. I now look back with equal gratitude. Don Roy was understated and, despite his profession, "untheatrical".
